Six Senses Laamu Resort is hidden in the Central Atolls surrounded by pristine empty waves, white sand, transparent clear water. 35 minute domestic flight away from Velana Malé Airport plus a mellow 20-minute speedboat ride, indeed it is secluded, it is the only resort in Laamu Atoll.
The project of Six Senses Laamu Resort is a leading case example in the combination of luxury travel, sustainability, conservation and giving back to the community, including through integration.
Top it up with Ying Yangs at your door step across the channel, a worldclass surfbreak, one of the most consistent sports in the area. This break has a long inside section, in its good days you will experience some incredibly hollow barrels.

Surfing
The Laamu and Huvadhoo Atolls are separated by the One and a Half Degree Channel. The swells generated by the weather phenomenon Roaring Forties created in the far south of the Indian Ocean, hit the islands of these Atolls with full power as there are hardly no land obstacles, creating the best waves in the country. The Six Senses Laamu house reef frequently offers a couple of quick, fun lefts. Across the channel and within view of the resort, Yin Yangs offers one of the most powerful and world class right-hand barrels in Maldives.
Experiences
Explore uninhabited islands, go island hopping, meet the locals and relax on secluded sandbanks. Snorkel in the coral-rich house reef rubbing fins with colourful fish. Dive the deep blue as early birds or night owls. Surf the Yin Yang. Or just hang. Other experiences include cinema under the stars, stargazing, traditional Maldivian fishing, marine conservation, etc.
The Den: Child´s Club
Six Senses Laamu is a family friendly resort. The Den is a kid‘s club with a wide range of activities and games. They have a choice of outdoor and indoor games. If they are good swimmers, and with the permission of the parents, they can go snorkelling to see the wide variety of sea creatures in our backyard reef. Babysitting services are available upon request.
Dining Gourmet Experience
Six Senses Laamu’s bars and restaurants are mostly set over water. Leaf is the signature restaurant perched above the organic garden where chefs invent dishes with the fresh local product. Zen features a modern twist on a traditional Japanese menu. Longitude is the international overwater restaurant. Chill Bar over the water offers signature cocktails whilst the resident DJ gets you dancing. Sip Sip is the sunken bar with all-day poolside dining. Plus an al fresco ice cream sorbet parlour and chilled chocolate studio for your sweets cravings.
Wellness & Spa
Nine uniquely designed treatment nests are dotted right on the beach or among lush landscaping. Discover your dosha (body type) with Ayurveda, enjoy nourishing local Maldives spa treatments and restorative facials and nurture your soul with meditation and yoga in an open-air rooftop studio. Enhance your post-treatment relaxation with a gut-loving and delicious smoothie at the Juice Bar.
Positive Impact
Six Senses Laamu is a member of The Long Run, travel destinations and accommodations that own, manage or significantly influence areas of biodiversity. Committed to a continuous journey of improvement towards excellence in the sustainability and the 4Cs: conservation, community, culture and commerce.
SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY
Laamu’s sustainability strategy ‘Local Sensitivity, Global Sensibility’ includes initiatives around energy saving, seagrass conservation, waste reduction, reef protection and wildlife conservation. The high density of seagrass in this part of the Maldives, can support up to 80,000 fish and is a vital form of food for sea turtles — to date this resort has recorded 107 green and 93 hawksbill turtles. Laamu’s six marine biologists continually update its visitor’s understanding of this rich biodiversity and work towards the long-term goal of turning the 19,200-acre atoll into a Marine Protected Area.

Underwater
Made up of resort marine biologists and three partners, the Manta Trust, Blue Marine Foundation and the Olive Ridley Project, The Maldives Underwater Initiative (MUI) brings together the greatest minds in marine conservation to find innovative solutions for Laamu’s most pressing issues.

MANTA RAY CONSERVATION
The Manta Trust is a registered charity with the mission to conserve mobulid rays and their habitats through research, education and collaboration. Since 2014, the Manta Trust has been working with Six Senses Laamu to study the local manta ray population and educate guests and the local community about the importance and vulnerability of manta rays.
Just a 15-minute boat ride from Six Senses Laamu and 20-meters below the surface is Hithadhoo Corner, a series of large coral blocks teeming with cleaner wrasse eager to clean Laamu’s resident manta rays. Innovative research techniques allow the team to learn more about mating behaviour and pregnancy.

Sea turtles
Olive Ridley Project (ORP) exists to protect Maldivian sea turtles from threats. Since 2018, they are making this dream a reality through their work as part of the Maldives Underwater Initiative. ORP continues to safeguard Laamu’s turtles through a wide range of research projects including studying the local turtle populations, monitoring turtle nests and collecting data on ghost nets found in and around the atoll.

Dolphins

Fisheries and marine protected areas
In 2018, the Laamu Atoll Council declared their intention to protect five marine areas, many of which were advised by Six Senses Laamu and Blue Marine Foundation. Tangible results include habitat restoration, recovery of fish-stocks, a sustainable local fishery and a thriving marine tourism industry.

On land
We are in Laamu to leave a legacy; we are committed to leaving this beautiful and unique part of the Maldives better than how we found it. We achieve this through having a positive impact on the local community and giving back in the form of education, development, and service.

Plastic free Laamu Atoll
They are one of only three hotels in the world that makes its own artisan chocolate. The homemade chocolate is used in the pastry kitchen, ice cream parlor, and chocolate studio to make thirteen different flavored bars for the mini bar and boutique.

Eku Eky community education
Through Eku Eky quarterly meetings, representatives from the atoll council and 11 island councils, women’s development committees, 13 schools, 5 police stations, and active local NGOs, come together to represent the voices of Laamu’s 13,000 residents. In recent years, a shift has been seen, with the ownership of this program moving away from the resort and into the hands of the community. The result is an open platform from which ideas can be shared and life can be improved for all residents of Laamu Atoll.

Citizen scientists
The first session on seagrass monitoring brought together government, NGOs, and higher education from most islands in Laamu. Following the instructions, participants felt so confident to carry out their own surveys that the first independent survey took place on Fonadhoo island shortly thereafter.
